Frequently asked questions

Do you accept last minute orders?

Absolutely! When it’s possible, we do accept rush orders. Please note that there is a 25% rush fee for orders received within 7 days of desired delivery/pick up date.

Do you make fondant cakes?

We specialize in Buttercream/Ganache based cakes. We do utilize a variety of edible mediums for decor elements including fondant, wafer paper, frosting sheets, paints, etc. to bring an event vision to life. We do not specialize in fondant cakes, but are happy to discuss your needs in a consultation and see if there is a way for us to create your vision in Buttercream!

Do you have a Bakery / Store front for walk in cake purchases?

I am a licensed, Cottage Bakery, in the state of NJ. I’m also a ServSafe certified Food Handler/Manager. Everything I create is baked and created in my home kitchen, which is licensed by the state. I do not have a traditional Bakery storefront. For this reason, a majority of what I create are pre-planned, custom orders. I do, however, offer regular cake “Flash” sales on instagram and seasonal holiday treat drops, where a select amount of items will be offered on a first come, first served basis via social media. If you are interested in this option, please ensure you follow me on Instagram @MarlieBakes for these announcements.

Do you offer vegan or Gluten Free cakes?

Most of our flavors are available in vegan, nut-free or flourless options! It’s important to note that while we can omit/substitute items, we are NOT a nut-free, vegan or gluten free facility. If you have any special diets needs, please schedule a free 15 consultation before placing your order, where we can review the best options for you. If you do have any dietary restrictions, please include those details in your consultation booking.

How do I know how many tiers / layers I need? What’s the difference?

These terms are easily confused - layers are the number of cake/frosting layers that are in each cake. For example, my 6” round cake consists of 4 layers of cake and 3 layers of frosting/filling. Tiers refers to stacking multiple cakes on top of each other. For example, a 6” round cake on top of an 8” round cake is an example of a 2-tier cake. You can choose your cake sizes/style based on the number of people you are serving, or based on how you like the cake to look. For example, some prefer the look of a tiered cake vs. a sheet cake for formal events, even though there may be few servings with a tiered cake. When in doubt, book a free consultation and we’ll talk about it together!

How should I cut my cake to ensure I get the most servings?

Not to worry, you’ll receive a cut guide with each order. This guide serves as the suggested cut strategy to get the amount of servings that are listed for each cake size on www.MarlieBakesCakes.com/Pricing. You can also refer to the below guides!

I don’t know what I want…How do I choose?

Not to worry! You can book a free, 15 minute cake consultation with me where you can learn more about the cake options and I can make recommendations based on your event needs, guest list, venue, etc. If you don’t have a design preference, you can also note you’d like a Freestyle design in your order form - which basically means that you let us know the color/scheme and you let us do our thing! More info can be found here - www.MarlieBakesCakes.com/policies.
